The Holy Babble

The Manic Street Preachers are both brilliant and utter, spineless bastards. They’ve gone and recorded a proper old-style bells and whistles Christmas pop single, entitled “Ghost Of Christmas” and its genuinely very good stuff. A really nice thing to see happen in yer modern X-Factory age.

And yet…because they dont want to be seen as naff (bit late, lads if we’re honest. 19 years is it now?) its not going to be a proper single with chart potential but a free download available from the official site. This official site to be precise. Now I like a freebie as much as the next man (and that next man is Alan “Gifts Yes?” Free-Giftington) but this could’ve really put the Manics back on track chartwise (I’m a huge fan but the last LP was rotten, whilst the oft-maligned “Lifeblood” was actually pretty ace).

Plus, who doesnt want to see some new decent Christmas singles in the Top 10 for the first time in ages? (sit down, Leigh Francis you bast) So, to Bradfield, Wire and Moore I say this - whats wrong with being the new Slade for a few weeks? Is it such a disaster to have mams and grandmas jigging in their kitchens to yer latest single? And why make a Christmas single in the first place if you didnt think it was going to be good?

And anyway, I think Sean would look really good with a massive pair of muttonchops….

(If you hear a new christmas single or notice a crap festive music video on YouTube, do let me know as I really adore seeing such shit.)
